Therapy for Adults with Chronic Illness

Navigating the demands of life with chronic illness and pain can feel scary, overwhelming, lonely, and extraordinarily stressful.

As people with chronic illness grieve the loss of their health and a sense of control over their bodies and lives, the world keeps moving. Piles of dishes, baskets of laundry, and the lawn grow taller. The most precious and meaningful things in their lives compete for time in their day against debilitating symptoms, pharmacy trips, health insurance headaches, and doctors’ appointments.

It can feel like there isn’t enough time in the day. Like the world is asking for more than their bodies or minds have to give. It might seem impossible to strike a balance between meeting all their obligations and making enough time for rest to avoid over-taxing themselves each day.

Adjusting to their illness – let alone thriving with it – may seem impossible.

Because I understand chronic illness affects every aspect of a person’s life, our work together centers you as a whole person, welcoming and tending to all parts of you.

We will explore what your head thinks. What your heart feels. What your body senses. What you’ve experienced in the past. What you dream of in the future. What you experience in relationships, at work, and out in the world. I strive to provide the comprehensive, holistic services that I needed when I developed chronic pain and illness.

I’m here to help you process life changes due to your chronic illness, develop effective coping strategies, and once again find ease in the way you inhabit your body and mind. Together, we will embark on a journey of transforming a painful relationship with chronic illness into one that informs a more mindful, balanced, and meaningful life.

We’ll work together to address:

Distressing thoughts • Painful emotions • Relationship challenges • Physical holding of pain, tension, emotions, & trauma • Difficulty relaxing • Coping with stress • Meaning-making & spiritual beliefs • Supporting your body & mind with food • Establishing realistic exercise habits • Quality of sleep • Impacts of discrimination & systemic oppression • Medical self-advocacy & patient empowerment

If you’re seeking ease in body and mind, and feel the time is right to dedicate time and effort to healing, please reach out to get started. I’d be honored to partner with you on this journey!
